4v4 Active Prot
I've been messing around with an active prot build for random/team arenas, and this is my build, it works pretty good, I'd like to optimize it with some energy management but I haven't gotten around to finding the skills I'd need to drop. This is pretty much a booner build with no boon, it compensates with efficient protting. I decided to run 16 divine favor because otherwise it is pretty difficult to put the red bars back up.
16 Divine Favor
13 Prot
Life Sheath [E]
Guardian
Shielding Hands
Reversal of Fortune
Mend Condition
Mend Ailment
Holy Veil
Signet of Devotion
Play instructions: Precast holy veil on yourself, and before the fight spam Life Sheath on you and the next most likely target - usually a mesmer, necro, or another monk. Use signet of devotion and mend condition to fight poison/bleeding/disease spreaders. Mend Ailment is for removing crippled/deep wound on yourself - CoP is another option for this slot if you would prefer. Typically, stacking prot on yourself and kiting is enough to deal with multiple warriors and assassins trying to go zerg rush the monk. It gets much harder when they target switch and spread out the damage.
Life Sheath has a couple bugs at the moment that you should be aware of. First, if you apply a Life Sheath on someone who already has a Life Sheath, you do not reset the damage the Life Sheath has taken. So wait until Life Sheath goes away before reapplying it. Its easy to tell on yourself, and a bit harder on others - usually if their red bar is going down, it means they don't have a sheath on them.
The second bug with Life Sheath is that RoF doesn't prevent damage to Life Sheath. That means that you use RoF on allies that are not sheathed - when a slower cast means death, or when RoF spam is superior to Life Sheathing. RoF is superior to Life Sheath against elementalists - one lightning orb takes out a sheath.
I'm considering running Spirit Bond, but I need to test the interaction with Life Sheath first - I know prot spirit doesn't help out Sheath, but I'm not sure on Spirit Bond.

Superior rune on a Monk who everyone wants to hit on = bad idea.

I actually don't think so in this case since you are going to be stacking prot enchantments on yourself.... and although 75 hp is quite a bit, you need the divine favor in this build badly.
What I'm trying to say is that protection enchantments are superior to focus fire, and the build has more problems with spread out damage. The answer to focus fire is more point in protection prayers and a higher max HP, the answer to spread out damage is more points in Divine Favor.

I dont see a problem with 1 superior rune, the gain > the loss. Of course, facing a spike team it's always nice to be able to sub in a minor rune. This was true before the expansion, and perhaps more true with the release of the shepherds set, which is overtaking as my favorite over ascetic.

If you are running a PVE monk then have both a superior and a minor rune.
Then switch as necessary.
PVP Character = no switch avail hence no sup rune.
BTW
:P
Spirit Bond stacks with prot spirit - so that when being spiked with both on you - you cannot take more than 10% max health damage while at the same time spirit bond will heal if that damage would have been over 60 - before damage mitigation from prot spirit took over. This has been tested and its great :P
